Ember watched as the kitten and deer fought. Long Spikes seemed to be thinking he was the best thing ever and it got on the screech's nerves. Quickly and slowly he flew closer to Kanu and leaned to his ear. " Is Long Spikes always like this?" the owl asked then glared down at the small skunk. She was about his size and was just adorable. He smiled then turned back to the buck.

Kanu shook his head, the smirk still on his maw. "I wouldn't know, barely met the buck!" he answered, watching Long Spikes as well. He helped the animals of the forest, not get in fights with those smaller than him. But truely, if this Long Spikes guy laid a dagger on eather the skunk, or the owl, he would have to fight Kanu. 'Protector of the Forest' leading the two-legged away from the forest in anger. That was his job, and he always stayed someplace until his job was done. Than would turn, leave, and never look back.

Spikes snorted, he didn't meen to be mean but the little skunk needed to learn common manners! He snorted to the kitten and looked at Ember, if she thought he was 'all that' she should learn more about Kanu! He thought it was his 'job' to care for those smaller than himself. A skunk could care for it's self! He lifted his tail, showing the white underside. He snorted and pawed the earth. He hated Kanu, somehow the buck had the idad he could aout wit a twoleg and a gun! A creature needed no more protection than they could give themselves, Spikes had tricked a twoleg, it wasn't too hard. And he had out witted a cyote!

Saphira smirked at the oh-so-stupid buck, Longspikes. She wanted BADLY for that stupid buck to be fought by Kanu. It would give her entertainment, and she would see that Longspikes loose horribly. She smiled at Kanu. She liked him. She normally hated animals that 'say' they protect the animals in the forest. But for some reason, some reason, she liked this buck. Her smile quickly vanished, though, and turned into a small frown. "I can take care of my self! I don't need some bucks help!" Saphira said stubbornly. Yes, she was very stubborn and thought she could do everything and anything herself. She looked up at the owl flying above. She gave him a friendly glare then turned her attention back to Kanu.

*Long Spikes Ember is a male owl*
Ember's long talons gripped the branch firmly. " You must be good friends with the lead buck then eh?" the male owl asked Kanu, he could tell that this deer was someone any animal could rely on if in danger.

Kanu's smirk still held on his maw as he looked at the rodent, Saphira. The skunk had spunk and wasn't afraid to snap. That was just what he liked in a rodent, even if they were smaller than him. He looked back to Long Spikes. He was an arrogant little fool. He thought he was the best thing that happened to this forest when really he was just a stubburn little brat. His smirk faded as he turned his head, from all of them, to look out among past the fields of grass. "I know you can young kitten! I didn't say you couldn't!" Kanu said yet surprisingly he ment it. He was speaking the truth for once about a skunk. He had a good feeling Saphira could infact even take down the other buck. This little animal was vicious, while the other was a bratty, stupid, ignorant fool! A skunk was nothing to judge by the outside....that he learned the hard way. "And actually Ember, I have never even met the lead buck..."

"Nor have I met my lead owls" Ember laughed " Though we both should really. I don't really though hang out with any owls at all." he laughed again this time it was a low sadish laugh. Though soon he cheered up and loosened his grip on the branch. He slowly let go of the branch and took off into the air. Now high in the sky the screech owl did many tricks such as twirls, loop-de-loops, and flying up side-down. This made him smile and after a few more tricks he landed back on the same branch.

Saphira smiled and let out a small giggle, though sh tried to hold it all in, as the owl did stunts in the air. She looked back up at Kanu, chest puffed out in ride, as any other kit would do her age. She was horribly surprised to see that Kanu was serious on what he said. She couldn't remember the last time she got a complement instead of a nasty remark. She hid her shock as she spoke. "Did I say you said something? No! I just said I thought you were acting like it!" She had a stern look on her face. As any kit she was determined to win every argument, even if the argument was as small and stupid as this one.

The screech owl turned to the great horned owl. She was much biggeer than him and probably stronger, but he senced no harm. "Hello, My name is Ember." Ember replied in his normal voice, which for a matter of fact it was quite low and ominous.

Balina, seeing some of her own specis, glided over to them and landed delicately on the branch. "Hello sir and madam. I am Balina. What be your names?" She said in a soft voice. She wanted badly for friends. She noticed that the female was a great horned owl, a big one at that, and the male was a screich owl, around the size of herself. She smiled a warm, sweet smile. Her head turned as she look towards all the comotion. She saw two bucks and a small snunk kit. She smiled an even wider, more cheerful smile as she saw the skunk stand up to two large bucks all by herself. "smart little one, she is." She whispered silently to herself. She turned her attention back to the two owls. Still smiling politely.

Saphira let out a small cough. She started to shiver a little bit. She looked up at Kanu with her small eyes. She then walked slowly over a ways and layed down. She didn't know where else to go. She couldn't possibly mak a den herself. The snow was cold on her underbelly. She would have to get used to it though. No one cared about her. She was just another rodent in the eyes of others. She was just a small skunk in a big forest. She didn't know what to do or where to go. All her life she wanted a home and parents to call hers. But now, now she knew she was on her own. Why did no one care about her? why was she different? She didn't even know how she was different. She just figured she was different, even from other skunk kits. She wanted to cry, to let all her emotions just flow out of her, but she didn't. Instead she just lay there. Cold, hungry, and lonely.

Ember then turned to Balina " Hello Balina." The screech owl replyed " I'm Ember." he added to his last commment then gazed up intothe sky. It was snowing very lightly and a cold breeeze whipped past the owls, messing a few of their feathers. Ember brushed his back down, the cold never seemed to bother him. He was use to the winteres in this area and actually kind of liked it.

"Pleased to meet you Ember." She saw his gaze go towards the falling snow. She loved the snow. She used to never get any, being from the South and all, but she love it. I was beautiful, or at least she thought. She relaxed herself comeplely as she watched the snow dance in the sky, slowly falling to the white ground below.

Kanu gazed from the hills to where Saphira lay in the snow. He turned, his daggers carrying him over to her. "Saphira...what is wrong?" he asked, using her name instead of 'skunk' or 'rodent.' He didn't want to upset her. He then thought about where that Long Spikes went to, but then realized he didn't care. He was glad he was gone. Shaking his head he turned back to Saphira, awaiting her answer.

Saphira turned to Kanu. "Did you ever have a family?" She wondered if he would answer her. She asked her question calmly, quietly, and also longingly. "I didn't.... or at least I don't.... I must have at one time but their gone... never to return." She stared even more longingly at him. "If you ever lost your family, without even ever knowing them. If you know what its like to be an orphan, then you know 'what is wrong'." Her longing gaze never left Kanu.

Ember turned to Krysetlo " Isn't the snow beautiful?" the screech owl asked the great horned owl then once again gazed up into the sky. Snowflakes fell down on his face and he playfully opened his beak trying to catch one on his tounge. As they hit the owl's tounge, the snowflakes melted making him cold inside. He shuttered only once then closed his beak. HE would have to try and warm up just a bit.
The owl flew off the branch and grabbed two large rocks. He placed one rock two or three feet away from the branch he had perched on then flew up as high as he could. He looked down and closed in on the rock. He droped the other rock that he had had in his talons on top of the other and small sparks began to fly. Soon the sparks turned into a very small flame and Enmber swooped down and huddled near it. "It's a trick I've picked up." the owl explained to Balina and Krysetlo.

Balina looked down at Ember. She swooped down towards him, landing softly on the ground. "Very useful trick, I must say." She smiled warmly.

Kanu smirked lightly. "Actually, I do know what it's like to be an orphan. My mother was killed by a hunter's gun when I was...little..." He answered, his voice showing no emotion what so ever.
